Dwelling and Holiday Accommodation
Statutory Consents
The brief involved extending a small rural house to more than double its floor space to accommodate a large family. The proposals involved a sympathetic approach to the front elevation, maintaining the existing street scene to ensure cohesion with the rural character. At the rear, a contemporary approach transformed the space, forming an expansive open-plan living area. A large rooflight was incorporated to allow natural light to reach deep into the interior, providing a visual separation between the existing house and the new extension. This lightwell was essential, given the scale of the extension and the north-facing rear aspect.
The loft conversion introduced modern glazing to the master suite, capturing panoramic countryside views, while an eaves rooflight brought light and sky views down the stairwell, enhancing the sense of openness.
Additionally, the brief included obtaining planning permission for glamping pods on the property, enabling the client to generate supplementary income. This strategic addition facilitated a semi-retired lifestyle, allowing the client to fully enjoy their enhanced rural living environment.
